Research Impact

Research impact, as defined by the University Grants Committee (UGC) Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020, means the demonstrable contributions, beneficial effects, valuable changes or advantages that research qualitatively brings to the economy, society, culture, public policy, or services, health, the environment or quality of life whether locally, regionally or internationally; and that are beyond academia. Research metrics are the quantitative measurements designed for evaluating a scholar's research output/impact. The two main types of Research Metrics are:

 

Citation Metrics (Bibliometrics)

Alternative Metrics (Altmetrics)

  • Altmetrics are the creation and study of new metrics based on the Social Web for analyzing and informing scholarship (see altmetrics)
