1. Critically evaluating AI generated content
Content generated by generative AI can sometimes be incorrect and biased. It is essential to critically evaluate such content, including any citations provided by the tools, to ensure accuracy.
2. Acknowledging use of AI tools in research and assignments
If you use generative AI in the development of ideas and concepts for your assignment, you should acknowledge in your bibliography how you used the tool. You may find out more information for citing generated content in the tab “Citing AI generated content”.
HKMU students are required to submit a declaration on the OLE to acknowledge their use of Generative AI while completing assignments.
3. Cite Provenance
Identify the source of the created content by referencing its provenance. It is essential to demonstrate the lineage of AI- generated works for legal transparency. You may find out more information about citations in our Library Guide “Citing Sources of information”.
4. Use Legally Permissible Content
Focus on using materials from the public domain, Creative Commons-licensed content, or other resources explicitly available for free use. These resources offer a legal and ethical basis for content creation without violating copyright laws.
5. Proper Attribution
Ensure proper attribution when using content from third parties as a reference or for inspiration. Acknowledge original creators by providing credits, attributions and links by applicable licenses or permissions.
6. Commercial Usage and Permissions
If you plan to use generated content for commercial purposes or beyond fair use, seek permissions from the copyright holder. Contact the original creators or rights holders for obtaining written approval for your specific intended use.
