《四部叢刊》是上個世紀初由著名學者、出版家張元濟先生匯集多種中國古籍經典纂輯的。學者們公認此書的最大特色是講究版本。纂輯者專選宋、元、明舊刊（間及清本者，則必取其精刻）及精校名抄本，故版本價值之高遠在《四庫全書》之上。多年來，該書一直深受文史工作者推崇，所收書常被用作古籍整理的底本。該書電子版底本采用北京大學圖書館善本部藏上海涵芬樓景印《四部叢刊》。其中包括：《四部叢刊》初編 民國十一年（1922）上海商務印書館再版景印本《四部叢刊》續編 民國二十一年（1932）上海商務印書館再版景印本《四部叢刊》三編 民國二十五年（1936）上海商務印書館初版景印本以上共計收書478種、3134冊、232478頁、近九千余萬字。每編內皆分經、史、子、集四部。
